Take care of pets in the cold!
Be aware of your pet’s tolerance for cold weather, and adjust accordingly. Cold temperature can cause serious harm and even death. Fur coats don’t keep them safe from every weather condition.
If your dog is regularly outside for a significant amount of time, keep in mind that the Bourbon County Ordinance states that dogs are required to have “adequate shelter” and “protection from the weather” in these conditions. This means that Animal Control may impound your dog if it is subject to any condition that is likely to result in harm to the animal. PAWS encourages all pet owners to bring their pets inside during these extremely cold days.
We rely on concerned citizens to be the eyes and ears in the community and report any situation they feel is inadequate for a pet. If you know of such a case, please call 859-988-9800. We will follow up with the proper authorities, and your name and contact can remain anonymous.
