The Paris Animal Welfare Society will hold a “Spay-ghetti” dinner, hosted by Rooster Brew from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 4th. The event will be held in honor of National Spay/Neuter Awareness Month and hopes to promote the life-saving benefits of spay/neuter.
“We hope people come out and enjoy themselves, and of course we hope to raise money for low-cost spay/neuter for Bourbon County pet owners. But most importantly, we want to get the message out there that spaying and neutering pets is vital to dealing with the issue of animal over-population,” says Robin Vincent, P.A.W.S. Director.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, between 6 and 8 million animals enter shelters nationwide each year and, of those, close to 4 million are euthanized. That means one homeless pet is euthanized every 8 seconds because shelters can’t save this huge number of accidental litters, strays and offspring of family pets. “Adoption is wonderful, but we will never dig ourselves out of the over-population hole by adoption alone. We must address the problem at its beginning, through spay and neuter, ” says Mrs. Vincent.
Dinner will cost $5 per person and can be purchased at Rooster Brew the night of the event. Proceeds will go toward the Paris Animal Welfare Society’s low-cost spay/neuter program which offers a low-cost alternative for those who could not otherwise afford the surgery. The program is open to anyone, and the cost to spay or neuter a pet is $35 for cats, and $50 for dogs. Since P.A.W.S. started its low-cost spay/neuter program last year, they have helped over 50 pet owners.
