Barn Managers

Adopt a Barn Manager Today!

We often need homes for “Barn Cats” – cats that prefer an outdoors-only lifestyle. Barn cats provide great rodent control to your farm, outdoor buildings, or warehouses. We offer barn cat adoptions on an “as needed” basis when we need to safely place feral, semi-feral, or “friendly, but prefers to be outside” cats.

The cats will keep rodents (and snakes too!) away from your property, grain, or food storage areas. The property owners are responsible for daily food/water, protection from the elements, and long-term vet care, if necessary. After a short period of secure confinement, the cats should accept your barn as their new home (recommended 2-4 weeks).

Barn Manager FAQs:

Are the Barn Cats Friendly?

The cats in the Barn Cat program are not always social, friendly cats or suited to be pets.We strongly encourage adopters to offer cats in this program an independent outdoor life complemented by appropriate care and shelter like a barn or garage. However, sometimes cats that were not suitable for indoor homes (often friendlier) may be available.

Do you have any kittens in the Barn Cat Program?

Most cats in the barn program are adults as kittens do not have the skills, size, or knowledge to remain safe outdoors. However, we occasionally may have younger adult cats suitable for the Barn Cat program. If you are interested in a specific age, please make note in our Barn Manager form.

Do they require much?

Cats in the Barn program require shelter in a permanent building or structure like a barn, shed, stable, or garage in a suitable rural area where they will be safe. We recommend that the property be at least .5 miles away from busy roads. Daily food and water must be provided, as well as any future medical care needed. The cats should be kept confined for the initial 2-4 week relocation period to ensure a successful transition to their new home.

Are the barn cats fixed?

Yes! All barn cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated prior to leaving the facility.
